Batawa ski racing report

This past weekend all levels of competitive racers competed in different locations in Southern Ontario.

U12

Last Friday February 21, 2020, five Batawa U12 racers attend the Sign of The Skier U12 Invitational at Mansfield Ski Club. Racers included Maya Bianchi, Rachel Brady, Kaelin Hearn , Julia Isbester and Elio DeLuca. All racers skied well on the Giant Slalom course.

Ont Sunday February 23, 2020 the Batawa U12 Team attend Muskoka Ski Club’s SOD Cup Kinder Kombi. Top place went to Rachel Brady placing 1st overall and not far behind was Julia Isbester in 9th place. Other fast times were from Kaelin Hearn (17th), Maya Bianchi (18th) and Kate Vandervoort (20th after her first run).

U14

The U14 team completed a busy weekend racing at Hidden Valley, Craigleith and Mansfield. At Hidden Valley Spencer Dullard-Krizay led way taking the gold medal in the Men’s Giant Slalom race. Spencer posted the top run in both races to top the field. Bodin MacDonald and David Kimball also had strong races. In the Ladies’ race, Batawa placed two racers in the Top 10 with Alexia Roma Bianchi finishing 7^th and Mia Del Grosso placing 10^th. Zoe Osborne, Maggie Scott, Olivia Bell, August Nadolny, Elena De Luca and Ruby Crews also competed. Members of the U14 team also competed at the SOD Cup Race Fest with Alexia Roma Bianchi posting a 7^th place finish in the Women’s Slalom race and finishing 14^th overall.

U16/U19

Batawa U16s and U19s competed at Devil’s Glen Ski Club in Duntroonin in aGiant Slalom race for the last SOD race of the season.

Batawa finished second overall in the team competition which was up from the previous weekend’s fourth place.

Batawa’s U16 girls had Anna Schmoll in 5th place and Haleigh MacPherson in 6th. Ileana DeLuca, Molly Henderson, Holly Liu and Lily Peters also had good runs.

The U16 boys had Jonah Hope place 9th. Ben Onesi and Evander Bentley did well too.

The U19 girls shook up the order this week with Chloe O’Boyle Kelly having the fastest time overall, Reena Liu with a nearly missed gate came in third, Emma Sabine-Craig edging out Annissa Bray for 5th place and Hannah O’Boyle Kelly coming in seventh.

The U19 boys were on fire this week with Isaac Hollinger topping the podium, Jaxon Starbuck was 6th and Bradley Bonner 7th. Padraigh Brady and Caleb Faubert-Roy competed as well.

Most of the U19 team will be competing in the Ontario Winter Games later this week at Mount St. Louis/ Moonstone. The NCC girls and Padraigh Brady are at OFFSA Alpine Racing at Osler Bluff Monday and Tuesday this week.
