Quinte West council will be asked to support toughening laws aimed at protecting farmer’s property and livestock.
At its meeting Tuesday council will decide on a resolution from the Hastings County Federation of Agriculture asking that it support Bill 156–Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act.
The intent of Bill 156 is to better protect farms and livestock from trespassers and other interference leading to potential contamination of the food supply.
Over time there have been more incidents on farms from groups opposed to animal agriculture.
Prince Edward County council has previously approved a motion supporting the bill.
