It was a day of smiles at Sans Souci in downtown Belleville on Thursday morning.
Officials with the United Way of Hastings Prince Edward announced that they surpassed their 2019 goal of $1,950,000. The final number was $1,962,000.
Executive Director Brandi Hodge says with just three weeks left in the campaign, they were still $50,000 back of their target.

Hodge says it was not just the big donors that made a difference.
Hodge adds that there are some large supporters that always step to the table. $100,000+ donors include CFB Trenton, the Parrot Foundation, Proctor and Gamble, and Maurice Rollins. To date Rollins has donated $750,000 to United Way HPE, and has helped leverage $2,350,000.
The guest speaker was authour Allyson Tufts. Tufts has two books, her life and the struggle of mental health in sports. She told the audience about making sports an environment that is safer for youth. Korah’s Butterfly, and Lessons from Behind the Glass have seen sales success from coast to coast. Tufts is also a past Campaign Manager for United Way HPE.
