The fight for first place in the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s East Division is going to go right down to the wire.
The Trenton Golden Hawks lead the second place Wellington Dukes by 3 points but Wellington holds 3 games in hand.
Both were winners yesterday.
Last night in Trenton Anand Oberoi turned aside 21 shots for his fourth shutout and also had an assist as the Golden Hawks skunked Whitby 3-0. Oberoi likes the way Trenton is playing.
Sullivan Sparkes, Colin Van Den Hurk and Andrew Suriyuth scored the Hawks. Trenton is in Lindsay Friday night then host Markham on Saturday.
In Wellington a 3 goal third broke open a tight game as the Dukes clipped Lindsay 5-2.
Daniel Panetta’s 18th of the year early in the third was the winner.
Ben Evans, Dylan Massie, Frank Vitucci and Quinn Hanna also scored while Justin Paul had 3 assists.
Wellington has won 5 in a row and coach Derrick Smith says they’re playing well.
Wellington travels to Whitby tomorrow (Tue) then host the St. Michaels Buzzers on Friday.
The Dukes have 8 games left. Trenton has 5 including a head to head meeting with Wellington on February 21st.
