Trenton– The Trenton Golden Hawks picked up a dominant 5-2 victory Friday night at the Hangar.
Firing 53 shots on the Whitby goal, the Golden Hawks outworked and outlasted the Fury offensively on route to the win.
It was Whitby striking first in the game.
Stefan Dobrich came back just over six minutes later to tie the game at one’s from Sullivan Sparkes and Cameron Gaylor.
In the second period, Adam Kim found twine just over a minute in from Gaylor and Andrew Suriyuth. The Fury tied the game up later on in the period before Griffen Fox scored his first of two on the power-play late in the frame.
The third period was all Trenton.
Jared Gerger scored an insurance marker with the man advantage from Kim and Colin Van Den Hurk. The Fox iced the game with a tally from Dalton Bancroft and Julien Jacob.
Anand Oberoi was solid in net for the Hawks with 20 saves on 22 shots.
With the win, the Hawks maintain a three point lead on their Bay of Quinte rivals, the Wellington Dukes, for top spot in the East Division.
It’s a quick turnaround for the G-Hawks who are back in action on Sunday night for a rematch at the Hangar against the very same Whitby Fury. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
