AUSTIN, Alan – Alan was promoted to glory, on January 24th, 2020 at the age of 94 at the Bridge Street Retirement Residence. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy May, Alan will be deeply missed by his son Richard Austin (Louise), daughter Brenda (Brian), grandchildren Sara Penney (Michael), Alex Marchand-Austin (Cassy), Matthew Woodley (Jackie), and Allison Diaz Mercado (Rodrigo) and great-granddaughters Violet, Hannah and Lucy Penney and many extended family and friends. Alan was born in Belleville and was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army. He was a dedicated Bandsman and Songster, sang as a member of the Belleville Quartet, and held many other leadership roles in the Church over the years. His dedication, faith and kindness served as an example to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Alan was a proud WWII Veteran who served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was the manager of G.T. Lanning in Watertown, NY for 11 years and then returned to Belleville to work for the same company until his retirement. Al loved to build in his workshop, walk by the Bay, play golf and spend time with his grandchildren. He loved to travel and spent many years of his retirement adventuring around the world with Dot. The example of their marriage and the love and support he gave his family will be remembered always. Visitation will commence at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at The Salvation Army Belleville Community Church, 290 Bridge Street West, Belleville followed by the Service at 1:00 p.m. If desired, donations in his memory are gratefully received by The Salvation Army Belleville Community Church or Family Services ministry.
