Wednesday is Bell Let’s Talk, and one of the most vocal communities in recent years has been in sports.
Jon Ogden, who recently had his basketball jersey retired by the St. Theresa Titans community, is a perfect example.
Ogden took his life last summer, after a battle with bipolar disorder.
In his honour, his school community and the Ogden family held a fundraiser in December to not only raise money for the local Canadian Mental Health Association, but to try and end the stigma.
This week the family announced the fundraiser game brought in more than $2,500 for CMHA, and there will also be workshops held at the high school
Finally, in honour of Ogden, the school has announced the first annual “Jonny O Memorial Classic” next December.
Five cents from every call, text, tweet, facebook frame, snapchat filter, and social media view will be given to mental health initiatives.
