The woman who provided historical information that led to the former Moira Secondary School not being called Meyers Creek Secondary School will request Belleville council change the name of Meyers Pier Marina.
In 2018 Laura Hatt, a Belleville resident who then was a Harvard University student, presented the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board with information proving that John Walden Meyers owned black slaves in the 19th century.
The school board then reopened the naming process and settled on Eastside Secondary.
Monday afternoon at Belleville council, Hatt will request a name change for Meyers Pier for the same reason.
Further, she will ask that a plaque be erected honouring Meyers’ slaves, the four-member Levi family.
