One of the parks in Belleville’s east end will be getting a retrofit this year.
Stanley Park will once again feature children’s playground equipment.
A city staff report indicates 774 people responded to a survey and 59% stated the addition of a playground in the park would increase the number of their visits.
Eighteen residents of the area signed a letter to city council objecting to the plan, saying they have “deep concerns.”
They complained that an open house on the issue was held at Parkdale Community Centre during a busy time in December and “only a few people” had heard about it.
General Manager of Transportation and Operations Joseph Reid tells Quinte News the information about the survey and the public information meeting were posted on the city’s website and on social media.
City council has approved a proposal by Wentworth Landscapes at just over $189,000.
The city had budgeted $250,000 for the project, and the extra funding will be used to provide a parking area adjacent to the playground.
