In an interview following the council meeting, Mayor Panciuik gave this comment on the Commissioner’s report, “The Integrity Commissioner, in a very long document came to the conclusion that I didn’t do anything wrong and he offered his opinion that it might be a problem but he couldn’t make any recommendations because it’s something that’s not before the court.”
He continued, “Everybody had some questions about the process on the first report. They felt it was inflammatory. Councillor Sandison went through a whole laundry list of what he felt was the incorrect way that it was determined.”
Councillor Garnet Thompson pointed to the reference in the report to “poor legal advice” and said by staying in the meeting the mayor could have influenced it. “I hope we learn from this,” Thompson said.
Mayor Panciuk tells Quinte News the Minister of Municipal Affairs has indicated there will be some legislation changes to the Integrity Commissioner rules in the future.
City council simply received the report.
It was noted in 2019 that council had gone over budget on the reports.
Following the meeting Mayor Panciuk indicated there are more reports coming.
