Belleville Police Service responded to 60 calls for service from the January 10, 2020 at 5 a.m. to January 11, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Impaired Driver and Conditional Sentence Breach
On January 10, 2020 at approximately 4:30 a.m., Belleville Police brought a man into custody for impaired driving and for having more than the legal amount of blood alcohol concentration in his system. Further investigation revealed that the 50-year-old Belleville male was on a conditional sentence for a conviction of sexual assault last fall. Furthermore, conditions of his sentence that he was found to be breaching were to be of good behaviour, not to possess or consume alcohol and not to be out of his residence at that time of day. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace in the afternoon and remanded into custody for the weekend. He will return on January 13 at 1 p.m. to bail court, likely be ordered to serve the sentence of which he was on conditions for and to face the new charges of impaired driving and driving while over the legal limit.
Breach of Probation and Controlled Drugs
On January 10 at 9:30 a.m., police were called to the laneway behind the Galaxy Cinema to check on the wellbeing of a male who was reportedly slumped behind the wheel of a red van. Upon police arrival, the vehicle was observed travelling east through the parking lot and stopped. Investigation resulted in 30-year-old Matthew Cvancic of Belleville being charged with breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. Cvancic was released with a court date of February 13 to answer to the charges.
On January 11 at 2:30 a.m., police were called to Station St. with regards to a suspicious woman. A 33-year-old Quinte West woman was located and investigation revealed that she was on an undertaking not to be away from her residence. She was arrested and taken to The Belleville Police Service where a subsequent search located a quantity of crystal meth on her. Investigation also revealed that she was on probation. She is being held for a video remand hearing on January 11 on charges of breach of her undertaking, breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance.
