The Belleville Police responded to 55 calls for service between January 8, 2020 at 5 a.m. and January 9, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Man arrested for theft
On January 8, 2020 at 8:15 p.m., a male was observed stealing merchandise at a store in the north end of Belleville. A security officer who was watching him contacted the police. Officers arrived and arrested the male. A check of the male indicated that he was on probation. Andrew McNally, a 46-year-old Belleville man, was charged with one count of theft under $5000 and one count of breaching his probation order. He was released on an undertaking with a court date of Feb 6, 2020 at 9 a.m.
Man charged after running red light
On January 8, 2020, at 10 p.m., police observed a male at College Street and North Front Street run a red light in his truck and accelerate away without his lights on. Police conducted a traffic stop and after speaking with the male driver learned that his licence was suspended. Police confirmed that the man had a suspended driver’s licence from a previous alcohol-related driving conviction. Dustin Smith, 26, of Marmora was arrested and released a short time later with a notice to appear in court on February 6, 2020 for the charge of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.
Suspended driver
On January 9, 2020, at 1:20 a.m., police observed a vehicle driving on North Park Street. As the driver observed the police vehicle, he quickly turned into a nearby parking lot and exited the vehicle. The male was stopped and identified at which time police learned that he had a suspended driver’s licence. Carmen Witty, 25, of Kingston was charged with driving while under suspension. He was issued a summons to appear in court on February 3, 2020.
