In front of a packed house at the Duke Dome last night, Wellington defeated the Trenton Golden Hawks 2-1 in the fifth instalment of the Battle of Quinte.
The Dukes used an early goal from Dylan Massie and a second period tally from Barrett Joynt, which stood up as the winner to down the Hawks.
Cameron Gaylor made it interesting for Trenton in the third period with a quick goal off the face off, but that was all they could do to beat reigning goaltender of the month Matthew Dunsmoor who was excellent again for Wellington making 32 saves on 33 shots for the win. Anand Oberoi was also impressive for Trenton turning aside 38 of 40 shots.
The Dukes remain unbeaten at 4-0-1-0 in the season series between the rivals and use the two points to move into a tie atop of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s east division with the Hawks.
Trenton’s 8-game win streak was snapped in the loss.
Wellington now heads into the holiday break, while the G-Hawks will travel to Brampton today to take on the Admirals.
