“I’m a member of the TMHF Youth Advisory Council, so when I heard that the government taxes don’t pay for medical equipment, I wanted to bring back the THS Christmas Auction (that was on hiatus for 5 years) to support the TMH IV SMART Campaign. My fellow council members were unanimous in support,” said Student Council President Ryan Gentle. “We couldn’t have been successful without the generousity of so many in our community that donated as well as the students, teachers, and public that bought items.”
“I am so impressed by these young people and what they’ve done today. We don’t always think about our young people using the hospital services, but they do. So it’s great to see their support here at the auction,” said Wendy Warner, Executive Director with the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The number one medical injury in hospitals is when patients receive the wrong dosage of medication. With help from the community and through events such as this one, the TMH Foundation hope to raise $335,000 for 67 new pumps by the new year.
The new IV SMART Pumps will significantly reduce the risk to patients. With almost 90% of all patients requiring intravenous pumps in their medical care, this is a critical need for TMH. Every department of the hospital has IV pumps that need replacing; emergency, inpatient unit, operating rooms, clinics, and diagnostic imaging. IV Pumps deliver medications like antibiotics, insulin, pain relievers as well as critical fluids and treatments for cardiac issues, traumas and blood transfusions.
