A report on affordable housing concludes that the Municipality of Brighton would be well served by having more rental units available for both small families and seniors.
The report, which also studied other municipalities in Northumberland County says Brighton is growing faster than other communities and has an older population.
Most of the housing stock in Brighton is made up of traditional single family homes while there’s a growing need for smaller units for seniors.
Meanwhile, of almost 1,400 households in Brighton living on under $50,000 a year about 50% are paying 30% or more of their income on housing while 25% of those are paying 50% or more for housing.
Brighton council will discuss the report at its meeting tonight (Monday).
