A downtown Belleville based hi-tech company has a new app that could help landlords solve one of their biggest challenges.
That challenge being vetting prospective tenants for their ability to actually pay the rent month in and month out.
Chad Guziewicz of Rentify.house has been a landlord and told a crowd of about 60 local landlords at a “mingler” at Ekort Realty in downtown Belleville Wednesday night that “the rental business is a very tough business!”
“The way the landlord/tenant situation is now set up, and believe me it won’t change anytime soon, the tenants have all the power and you’ve got nothing! I had one tenant that poured tar down the toilet. I couldn’t get rid of him! I got out of the business but I left knowing there was a business opportunity in finding a better way to avoid renting to people likely to be a problem in the first place!”
Guziewicz and associates have created an app called Rentify. It can quickly do a thorough check on a prospective tenant’s financial history for the past 12 months and rate the landlord’s risk in renting to that person.
The app uses data from millions of banking verifications and will confirm identity, income, loan risk, credit card risk, whether a person tends to have a low bank balance at the first of the month, number of NSF cheques, and number of bankruptcy trustee payments, to mention just a few.
The app would be placed on the landlord’s webpage and the prospective tenant would have to approve the use of Rentify at the outset.
Guziewicz’ company also created an app known as Tire Wizard which car dealers across the country are using to check on all kinds of tires, wheels and accessories in just a few seconds instead of poring through parts manuals.
The landlords, many members of the Quinte Region Landlords Association, also heard a presentation on Matterport which is software that landlords can use to quickly create 3D video tours of apartments or buildings they have for rent.
