Prince Edward County is all set to open their wallet and commit to the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s Cell Gap and Capacity Expansion project.
On Tuesday night, councillors approved a motion which will see the municipality contribute $59,055 for the next three years to the $200 million project, which would see commitments from all three levels of government.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says there are parts of the County which do not have cell coverage.
The funds would be a part of the 2020 operating budget.
Any funds unspent in the 2019 EORN Budget would be utilized in the 2020 budget to offset that year’s contribution.
The project is designed to cover more than 99.5% of the region and address about 93% of gaps in capacity.
Neighbouring municipalities have also said they are on board with the project and would contribute their portion of funds.
