CIVIC CITATION FOR COUNTY RESIDENT
Later this month, Prince Edward County council is preparing to recognize a county resident for his bravery.
At council’s Committee of the Whole meeting tomorrow afternoon (Thursday), the committee is expected to approve the nomination of Jay Crowells for a Civic Recognition Award.
The nomination is being made by councillor Bill Roberts.
Last January, Crowells risked his own life and pulled 2 ice fishermen out of the icy waters off the Bay of Quinte after hearing their cries for help.
He walked about one kilometre back to dry land, pulling the two men along in a sled.
Crowells has already received the Commissioner’s Citation for Bravery from the OPP.
Staff is suggesting that county council present the Civic Citation at its November 26 meeting.
CONDOS AND TOWNHOUSES
Meanwhile, Prince Edward County council’s Committee of the Whole is expected to recommend the final step be approved for a new housing development in Picton at its meeting tomorrow (Thursday).
The Committee is being asked to approve a final Site Plan Control Agreement and Condominium Exemption for a development next to Welbanks Meadows subdivision.
If approved, the development would consist of 10 condominium units, two blocks of townhouses along with two semi-detached residences.
The homes would be built off Jasper Road in Picton.
RAISE IN PAY
Prince Edward County council will consider raising the pay of the mayor and councillors at its meeting tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
Council has already set a policy regarding remuneration for itself which allows for an increase equal to the rise in the cost of living index.
That index has gone up just under 2%.
If the Committee of the Whole approves the increase, the mayor will be paid $49,229. and councillors will receive $24,615.
Committee chairs would receive a further $1,698.
