The Quinte Region Traffic Coalition is taking aim at a different area for improving road safety.
The coalition, composed of area police services and public health, has been focusing on education and enforcement to prevent injuries and deaths due to motor vehicle collisions.
Public Health Nurse Keri Jianopolous told the Prince Edward Board of Health on Wednesday that now the coalition is turning to the area of engineering, the roads themselves.
She says collecting the data is essential to doing the work.
Belleville Police Sergeant Brad Stitt told the board “These are preventable accidents.”
Stitt says Belleville may address problems differently from other municipalities and “the idea is to get a broad-based perspective.”
He tells Quinte News the idea is to work with municipalities.
Also the QRTC is getting ready to launch a new campaign through the holiday season aimed at reducing impaired driving.
Staff Sergeant Dawn Ferguson of Central Hastings OPP introduced a series of new, really short videos for social media.
Staff Sergeant Ferguson tells Quinte News that “Social media is a successful platform to get a variety of age and gender groups with quick short messages that are more apt to be read and watched.”
