Belleville city staff are reassuring residents their drinking water is safe and lead-free.
Following an investigative report, the City of Belleville issued a press release to let residents know they don’t need to be concerned.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk told Quinte News the city’s drinking water leaves the plant lead-free.
He says the city has been in touch, over the years, with homeowners who have older homes to make sure the issue is brought to their attention.
Homeowners can request testing if they suspect they have lead services or fixtures within their home.
The city undergoes annual testing as required by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and last year, all samples were below the Ontario Drinking Water Standard. The full report can be found on page 10.
The City of Belleville completed an extensive five-year sampling program in 2013 to determine potential threat levels in the distribution system.
Mayor Panciuk is confident in the drinking water quality.
Those who have an older home and in an older neighbourhood and have questions or concerns can contact the City’s General Manager of Environmental Services Perry DeCola.
