Industrial land sale
Another industry will be setting up shop in the expanded Brighton Industrial Park next year.
Monday night, council signed off on the sale of 2 acres of land to Phillips Formula Inc., a maker of lubricants.
The company bought the land for $70,000.
At this point, it isn’t known how many jobs will be available.
Applying for infrastructure funding
Brighton council will apply for financial support from the federal and provincial governments to complete upgrades to its recreation facilities.
Council supported staff’s request that an application be made to the Canada Infrastructure Program to help pay for the replacement of the arena’s chiller and dehumidifier and the resurfacing of part of the parking lot in King Edward Park.
The total cost of the projects would be around $250,000 with $75,000 being paid by local taxpayers and the rest by senior government.
Policy formalized regarding Indigenous logos and themes
Brighton now has written policy controlling the use of Indigenous logos and themes in its arenas and other recreational facilities.
In keeping with dictates sent down from the Ontario Human Rights Commission the policy is straightforward in that council now prohibits such displays in all municipal facilities.
Local hockey teams have long been known as the Brighton Braves however the team’s name is in the process of being changed and the municipality will be informing all other organizations of the new policy.
Phase 2 of housing development approved
Brighton council has signed off on another housing project with local contractor Gordon Tobey Developments.
The approval will allow Phase 2 of the Hamilton Woods to proceed. That phase will feature 16 single-family homes, two semi-detached dwellings and three blocks of four townhouses each.
The new phase will access Ontario Street via Cardinal Court.
