Robbery
On October 31, 2019 at 9:50 a.m., police were called about a robbery in the area of Eastside Secondary School. Responding officers learned from a complainant that a 13-year-old male victim had a knife pulled on him by another young male suspect, demanding the victim to turn over his shoes. The suspect was described as wearing a red-hooded sweater. A second male suspect was also described as wearing a light-coloured brown jacket. Both were observed heading north on Farley Avenue, towards Station Street. The victim did not suffer any injuries. The initial investigation has identified a 14-year-old suspect, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is wanted for the offences of robbery and breaching release conditions from an earlier custody-release order. The investigation is continuing. Arrested on warrants
On October 31, 2019 at 5:20 p.m., police on patrol were flagged down by a man on Moira Street West. An investigation revealed that another man in the immediate area was wanted by the Quinte West OPP. Police arrested the 21-year-old city man on warrants for charges including: two counts of assault, sexual assault, assault with a weapon, and failing to attend court. Tyson William Thomas Cooney was taken into custody and turned over to the Quinte West OPP to appear in bail court on November 1 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
Later in the evening on October 31, 2019 at 7:50 p.m., police were investigating a disturbance in the Albion Street area and came across another wanted person who had outstanding arrest warrants. This investigation led police to the arrest of 23-year-old city resident Tyler Scott Ruttan on charges of failing to attend court and failing to comply with a probation order. Ruttan has been released from custody on a promise-to-appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 5.
Public mischief for nonsense 911 calls
On October 31, 2019 at 9:12 p.m., a city man was arrested for the criminal offence of public mischief after calling 911 a total of ten times within an hour. The 24-year-old man was calling and complaining to police dispatchers about attacks, crimes, and events that were not happening. He was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service and is being held for a bail hearing on November 1 at the Ontario Court of Justice.
Assault with a weapon
On October 31, 2019 at 11:49 p.m,. police arrested a city woman after earlier investigating a couple of assaults involving a baseball bat. The incident occurred at an east end apartment complex. Police attended earlier in the evening to investigate, however the suspect woman had left prior to police arrival. Twenty-nine-year-old Angela Evelyn Elizabeth Nolan was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. She was taken into custody. A baseball bat was recovered at the scene and seized by police. The were no major injuries. Nolan has been released with strict conditions and a promise-to-appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on November 14 to answer to the charges. Police were kept busy throughout the past 24-hour period, responding to unwanted persons, liquor licence act arrests, breach of the peace arrests, domestic disputes, traffic hazards, assisting ambulance, and downed wires and trees from the gusty winds.
