A lot of work has gone into the ongoing process to have parts of Baldhead beach, between Wellers Bay and Lake Ontario, open to the public. And, it appears that could happen for the summer of next year.
The Friends of Wellers Bay and other interested people are working on identifying areas of the sandspit at Baldhead that could best be opened for public use.
They are also considering building walkways, and monitoring the area, educating the public, and cleaning up from time to time.
However, the group is worried about liability should something go wrong, and the Department of national defense is looking into it. Baldhead beach was a practice bombing range..and it is now a national wildlife area.
