The issue of the two storage trailers sitting at Holgate Tire and Battery in Belleville’s Thurlow Ward came before Belleville’s Planning Committee once again on Monday night.
Owner Adam Holgate was seeking another extension of temporary use, to allow him time to build a “stand-alone” building to replace the storage trailers.
Planning Chair Councillor Paul Carr tells Quinte News it’s a matter of balancing a small successful business with the developing residential area.
Member Kathryn Brown told the committee it is a very contentious issue with residents in the area, and the idea of offering a two-year extension is “very concerning” for them.
Councillor Bill Sandison suggested a temporary 30- or 90-day extension.
Manager of Policy Planning Stephen Ashton indicated two years would give time to design and construct a storage building.
Ashton said he would discuss the issue with Holgate and report back to the committee.
