The Canadian Union of Public Employees has given notice to the province that its 55,000 education workers will hit the picket lines on Monday, if a new contract isn’t reached.
Seven hundred of those workers are employed within the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board as well, including custodians, clerical workers and early childhood educators.
Those workers began a work-to-rule campaign this week, limiting their duties to only essential services and the union says it is willing to go back to the bargaining table to avoid a strike.
HPEDSB spokesperson Kerry Donnell tells Quinte News the board is aware of the strike notice and is looking into how to deal with the situation.
