Power forward Scott Sabourin has made enough of an impact with the Ottawa Senators to earn himself a two-way contract for the upcoming season.
The 27-year-old Ottawa native has been with the Senators on a professional tryout and has spent the last six seasons playing in the American Hockey League, where he’s amassed 77 points in 308 games.
The two-way deal, which is worth $100,000 in the AHL and $700,000 in the NHL, means the Senators are able to send him up and down to Belleville as needed throughout the season.
Prior to turning pro, Sabourin played four seasons with the OHL’s Oshawa Generals, including time spent playing for Head Coach DJ Smith, who is now behind the bench in Ottawa.
He recently made headlines after an on-ice exchange with Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews during one of the three preseason games he’s played with Ottawa this season.
