Loyalist College held a board of directors meeting today (Wednesday) on campus.
The board discussed a new sexual assault and violence policy that the college has created to help spread awareness to prevent sexual assault at Loyalist.
The new policy will be proactive with training courses and procedures to respond to sexual assault and violence.
The board passed the new policy as bill SS612.
Another topic of discussion was school enrolment.
Loyalist has a seven percent increase in student enrolment at 3,518 students this year, including a 21 percent increase in international student enrolment. However, Loyalist did see an eight percent decrease in domestic enrolment which college president Ann Marie Vaughan says is a trend across the province.
Loyalist was above the provincial average in every single major positive statistic last year. Graduate employment was at 88.5 percent, graduate satisfaction: 80.5 percent, employer satisfaction: 91.1 percent, graduation rate: 68.3 percent which is 1.1 percent above the provincial average and most notably, student satisfaction: 80.9 percent which is 5.2 percent above the average.
As a matter of fact, 91 percent of Loyalist students surveyed felt that their education is preparing them for their future careers.
Vaughan adds that the school has made several improvements over the summer.
Making Loyalist College a destination college in Ontario is one of the main goals moving forward. Especially when it comes to attracting more students from Ontario. This could include changes to programs, new programs or even a change in the delivery of programs.
The board is happy with the overall provincial statistics of Loyalist College, but doesn’t want to stop there. Making the college a better place for everyone is still the main goal for this school year.
