Retirement of Captain Dwight Sine, CD
Captain (Capt) Dwight Sine will retire on 1 November 2019 after 29+ years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces.
Capt Dwight Sine joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as an Air Defense Artilleryman in September of 1990. Upon completion of recruit training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and trades training in Shilo, Manitoba, his first posting was to CFB Petawawa, Ontario where he was initially employed as a javelin gunner in Y Battery for 2 RCHA and 1 AD Regiment in Pembroke where he met his beautiful wife Deidre.
In 1992, Capt Sine was tasked to 2 RCHA for a 30-day exercise in Norway. During this time, he was trained on the M-109 where he was proud that he was the only gunner to hit a mountain (not the intended target). He was promoted to Bombardier in 1994 and completed his JLC in the spring of 1997. In January 1998 he was deployed to the Ottawa Ice Storms assisting Ontario hydro in restoring power to residents of Eastern Ontario.
After surviving the dark ages of the 90’s, Bdr Sine decided to venture out and explore other trades. In 1999 he hung up his Arty cap badge, drove down the road to Borden, Ontario and commenced his training as a Resource Management Clerk. Upon completion of his course he was posted to Trenton, Ontario where he quickly adapted to the Air Force way of life. Having survived the Y2K scare, Cpl Sine packed up his winter kit and deployed for 3 months to Eureka, Nunavut where he provided support to military and civilian engineers ensuring Canada’s sovereignty and protecting our north. In 2001, Cpl Sine deployed for 6 months on Op CALUMET in El Gorah Egypt as the Force Engineer Officer, providing Camp support to a Multi Force Operations (MFO) base. Upon his return to Canada, and being such a pain, his supervisors ensured they would not have to deal with him again, granted Cpl Sine a 4-year posted to CFSU Colorado, Colorado Springs, USA. His time in Colorado was the highlight of his career, as a Canadian soldier, he was nominated and awarded the US Airmen of the Quarter, promoted to MCpl and also completed his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration/Management.
Missing the Air Force lifestyle, and having to leave the States, MCpl Sine was posted back to Canada to the Comptroller section of 14 AMS and 2IC with 14 ACSS in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Although he had become accustomed to the Air Force way of life, his career manager decided MCpl Sine needed to be slowly reintegrated back into the Army life. In the summer of 2009, the Sine family packed up and moved to CFB Gagetown where MCpl Sine was employed as Hotel Company Clerk 2 RCR. During this time, he deployed with the Regiment to Op Podium in 2010 and was later promoted to Sgt.
During his time with the RCR’s, Sgt Sine decided it was time to try something new and applied for the Special Commissioning Program and was commissioned to Lt in 2011. After successful completion of his Logistics Officer/Transport Officer and Movements Officer course he was posted to 5 CDSB Gagetown as the SPV Platoon Commander and Admin O. In 2015 Capt Sine was posted to CFB Petawawa where his was employed as Admin O Supply Coy, 2IC of 4 CTDC, G4 Tn and finally ended up in 2 Svc Bn as 2 IC Tn Coy.
Capt Sine will be retiring in the Pembroke area where he will be completing his Video Gaming Animation Certificate, completing his wife Deidres honey do list, and travelling.
