As the Ottawa Senators announced a major eight-year extension for star defenceman Thomas Chabot, the American Hockey League club in Belleville made a defensive signing of its own, on Thursday.
The B-Sens announced the signing of 20 year-0ld Jonathan Aspirot to a two-year AHL contract.
The first year of the deal is a two-way contract, meaning Aspirot can be sent freely back and forth between Belleville and the Sens’ ECHL affiliate in Brampton, while the second year is a one-way deal.
Aspirot, who has also played forward at times, spent four seasons with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, captaining them last year and registered a career total of 73 points in 188 junior games.
He also represented Ottawa at the Rookie Showcase events in 2018 and 2019, and is currently with the NHL Sens at their training camp in Ottawa.
