The number of people riding Belleville Transit buses is up so far this year over last.
To the end of August well over 83,000 people boarded buses. That compares to almost 78,000 for the same period last year.
Transit Operations Manager Paul Buck is certain ridership will easily top the one million mark by the end of the year. Last year was the first time that milestone had been reached.
Meanwhile, monthly bus passes are selling like hotcakes.
Just two years ago only around 1,000 passes were sold per month. That number then jumped to 1,500 and again to 2,000 recently.
For this month, there were only five passes left to sell as of this writing.
Management will begin ordering a total of 2,500 passes per month starting with October.
