Quinte West’s Public Works Advisory Committee hopes council will do a major project which will help preserve good water quality in Oak Lake.
The committee has recommended that the tile drainage system from agricultural land be rerouted to flow away from Oak Lake and into a nearby wetland instead.
The wetland is expected to naturally purify the runoff from the farmland.
Meanwhile, mayor of Quinte West Jim Harrison says keeping Oak Lake clean is not just about agricultural runoff.
The work to reroute the tile drain is expected to cost $250,000. If approved by council the work would be done this fall.
