Belleville Police were called to a west end location early this morning for a disturbance.
At 2:30 a.m., police were told by the home owner that a man was in his back yard attempting to steal marijuana plants.
When he confronted the man, a fight ensued which prompted the call to police.
Thirty-five-year-old John Collingridge of Belleville was arrested for trespassing at night and assault.
He was later released on a promise to appear in court with a court date of September 26.
