It seems dog tags will continue to jingle on the collars of our canine friends in the City of Quinte West.
At a meeting of the city’s Corporate Finance Committee it was recommended that council not discontinue its dog licensing program.
Staff had presented the option of ending the sale of dog tags as most people weren’t buying them and other identification techniques such as microchipping were available.
A Quinte West resident told the committee it would be abdicating its responsibility if it stopped issuing dog tags.
The committee has asked for a staff report on ways to increase the number of tags sold and the feasabillity of also requiring cats to be licensed.
