With classes underway around the area, police, especially in Quinte West, will be stepping up their patrols around school zones.
Quinte West OPP say you’ll likely notice a heavier police presence around local schools during the work week, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Officers will be watching for aggressive and distracted drivers, but will also be putting an increased focus on those who don’t yield for crossing guards, pedestrians, or school buses.
Drivers are reminded that failing to stop for a school bus, including on multi-lane roads, carries a fine of $400 and six demerit points.
The only exception is if you’re on a road with a median.
If you don’t stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk, you can be fined $365 and four demerit points.
