- 5:10 p.m. UPDATE: A father and his 5-year-old daughter are in Kingston General Hospital.
- Two others were taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital. It’s unclear whether the young male gas attendant had to go to hospital.
- Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says people from the Quinte area were involved.
- A sunny Labour Day weekend Saturday suddenly went off the rails early in the afternoon at Trenton’s Fraser Park Marina.
Shortly after noon a 34-foot-long wooden, older cruiser had filled up with gas at the marina, located at the foot of the Veteran’s Skyway Bridge in the downtown, and as soon as the the driver turned the key in the ignition there was an explosion.
There were two men and a woman, plus two children, a boy and girl, on board the boat.
Flames were put out quickly by the Quinte West Fire Department and the boat ended up sinking.
Also responding were Hastings/Quinte paramedics and the OPP.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation and the Ministry of Labour is involved.
