According to a consultants’ report to be presented on Tuesday, the City of Belleville has enough land to accommodate commercial, residential, community facility and employment growth for the next 20 years.
The report, by Watson and Associates Economists Limited, will be presented to the city’s planning committee as an information item on Tuesday and will supplement the city’s ongoing update of its official plan.
It says the city has already designated enough land to accommodate residential, commercial and community facility growth and there is enough extra employment land to accommodate forecast demand in that area as well.
In order to improve its economic development potential, the city is being advised to swap out 276 gross hectares of unserviced land north of Highways 401 and 37, and include 166 gross hectares of expropriated land near the northeast industrial area, reducing the employment land surplus.
The city is also being advised to convert six parcels of employment land in the Sidney Street and Waterfront Industrial areas, since those sites are considered to be isolated and surrounded by residential uses.
