The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has made another large donation to the hospital foundation.
The foundation announced Wednesday that a $10,000 donation by auxiliary members has led to the purchase of a new Centrella Smart Bed, the third to be added to the hospital’s inpatient unit.
The bed is fully adjustable with electronic controls, making it easier for patients to get in and out, while reducing the fall risk and is also able to read vital signs through a sensor, alerting staff to changes in a patient’s condition.
The bed also includes a USB port so patients can charge their electronic devices.
The hospital foundation says there were more than 960 inpatient stays at the Picton hospital last year, averaging between five and six days, so more beds like this will make those stays more comfortable and easier for patients and staff alike.
