Maclan Designs has drawn first blood in the battle for the Thornton Portt Memorial Championship Trophy in the South Hastings Baseball League.
Matt Richardson went 4 for 4 with 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored in Maclan’s 5-2 victory over the defending champion Bain Excavating Rockies. That backed the complete game pitched by Dawson Stone.
Game 2 in the “A” championship series is tomorrow night (Wed) at 7 in Melrose.
The “B” championship begins tonight with the Read Young Guns playing Tal Trees at 7 p.m.
