The City of Belleville says the intersection that was the scene of a collision earlier this week is currently undergoing a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment to identify the preferred option for improvements to the west-end intersection, along with the widening of Sidney Street from Bridge Street West to Wilkins Street.
The response from the city comes after it was brought to their attention that an online petition is circulating requesting the city take action to improve the major traffic corridor.
The city states that the improvements being sought are quite significant and the environmental assessment is the first step in the process to finalizing a design and proceeding to construction.
A public information session was held on August 19 in regard to this intersection project and a second public information session will be held at a later date.
