Belleville is optimistic after meeting provincial ministers at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa on Tuesday.
The Belleville delegation met with Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney stating its case for an east arterial access to be kept on the drawing board when Highway 401 is widened.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News Muroney “understood and promised some action on that.”
Belleville also raised the issue of the trail network across the 401 during that widening, so the city could begin budgeting for that.
The city also met with the Minister of Environment Jeff Yurek who was supportive of the city’s request for an exemption from a new environmental assessment on Bell Boulevard so that widening work could go ahead before Costco comes to town.
