A new system, in the program to help the homeless in Belleville, will get underway next year.
Hastings County has received federal funding to administer a homeless strategy on behalf of the city, over five years.
This requires that a coordinated access system be put in place.,
Director Erin Rivers told a meeting of the Hastings County Community and Human Services Committee on Wednesday that it will assist all the agencies in serving the homeless.
The department will put out a request for proposals to social service agencies to undertake the system, including a point-in-time count of the homeless.
Federal funding in the amount of $99,134 has been allocated for the project.
Rivers says it allows information to be shared across the community to ensure people in crisis are actually receiving the programs and services they need.
Under the system, homeless or those at risk of homelessness are directed to community-level access points, connecting them to support systems in the community.
