Area seniors will benefit from another funding announcement by Liberal MPP Mike Bossio today.
A total 13 local programs and facilities will split more than $438,000 from the New Horizons for Seniors Program and the Enabling Accessibility Fund.
The projects include washroom reconstructions, ramp installations, the addition of automatic doors and accessibility lifts, as well as improvements to heating systems and more.
The following projects are receiving money through the Enabling Accessibility Fund:
- Annunciation Catholic Church Hall, Enterprise, will receive $14,950 to rebuild one washroom, to make it fully accessible for parishioners and community members. Funds received will also go to installing an automatic door opener, to make an entrance into the church fully accessible.
- The Tamworth Medical Centre will receive $68,089 to construct an exterior ramp, install an automated door opener, and to build an accessible washroom.
- The Newburgh Community Hall will receive $69,092 to construct an accessibility ramp within their facility.
- The North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary will receive $2,183 to install an accessible automatic door opener at the entrance to the Corner Café, located in the Professional Building.
- The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation will receive $30,043 to construct an accessibility ramp outside of Christ Church, Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal of the Mohawk.
- The Municipality of Stirling-Rawdon will receive $100,000 to construct accessible washrooms, and to install an accessibility lift at the Stirling Arena, which is also the home of the Stirling & District Lions Club.
The following projects will be getting money from the New Horizons for Seniors Program:
- The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation will receive $25,000 for their Active Seniors Program, promoting further engagement of the community’s seniors.
- The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 228 (Stirling) will receive $24,852 for the rejuvenation of the facility’s heating and cooling system.
- The Lt. Col. Harry Babcock, Branch 137 of the Royal Canadian Legion (Napanee) will receive $4,902 for the purchase of musical equipment, to support social participation amongst the community’s seniors.
- The Marmora and Area Curling Club will receive $25,000 to replace an outdated heating system, and to install a water filtration system for their facility.
- The Tsi Kionhnheht ne Onkwawenna Language Circle, on the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation, will receive $24,668 for their Ratiwennokwas V Elder’s Gathering.
- The Stirling Curling Club will receive $24,554 to purchase tables, chairs, and protective headgear to allow for continued curling activities, fostering social participation and inclusion of seniors.
- The Auxiliary of Hastings Centennial Manor will receive $25,000 to install door vinyl and kick plates, and will add wheelchair accessible buttons to increase the social participation and inclusion of seniors.
