On August 9, 2019 shortly before 8:00 p.m., members of the Leeds Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle travelling west on Highway 401 at a high rate of speed and that it had collided with multiple vehicles.
An additional collision occurred before officers were able to safely bring the suspect vehicle to a stop. Minor injuries were sustained in that collision and the involved parties were transported to hospital.
As a result of the investigation, George Wabigwan, 29 years old from Colborne, is facing the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act charges:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Stop for Police
- Resist Arrest
- Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit
The accused is being held in police custody for a bail hearing to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on August 12, 2019.
