The Quinte West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will start 401 patrols today.
Officers from Quinte West will take over 401 responsibilities from Highway 37 to the Northumberland border.
This takes over the section of highway from Lennox and Addington OPP and will provide a more efficient and timely response to calls along the major traffic corridor.
The transition sees the Quinte West Detachment acquire additional support including eight additional police officers, cruisers and enforcement equipment to assist with these responsibilities.
The two detachments have cooperatively worked together over the past several months to ensure that the Quinte West Detachment patrol officers have the tools and exposure to assume the unique challenges that come with safely patrolling Highway 401.
The Quinte West Detachment will also be supported by OPP Provincial Traffic Operations deployed Highway Safety Division members.
The Quinte West Collison Reporting Centre will act as an additional resource; motorists involved in property damage collisions may be directed to report to the Collision Reporting Centre at 3 Dixon Drive, Trenton, Ontario.
