The record high water levels in Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte could cause Belleville city council to press the pause button on its Pop-Ups on the Bay retail shop program.
A few temporary pop-up shops had been planned for Victoria Park this summer but high water levels forced the three pop-up shops involved to move to West Riverside Park instead.
Now staff is recommending council spend up to $20,000 to hire a consultant to do a development plan which would recommend best locations for more permanent shipping containers serving as pop-up shops, taking into consideration the possibility of flooding.
Council had already set aside $110,000 to go ahead with shipping containers next season.
The issue will be discussed at Monday afternoon’s council meeting.
