Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has decided there was no wrongdoing by Belleville Police after a man was injured during an arrest almost a year ago.
BPS tried to stop a motorcycle on North Front Street, around 10:45 p.m. on September 14, 2018, but the rider sped away and abandoned the bike near the Lowe’s Home Improvement store, before running into a swampy area.
Officers were able to find him and as they were walking out of the poorly lit marsh, when he stepped off a retaining wall and fell about four or five feet.
His mother says he suffered a concussion and chipped a tooth.
The SIU has decided that while the 37-year-old did suffer injuries that could have resulted from him being assaulted, there is no evidence to support that.
