While parents and supporters of Ontario’s autism programs are pleased that changes to proposed legislation will be coming, they say those changes need to come sooner, rather than later.
After uproar and criticism about initial autism funding proposals from the province, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Todd Smith announced last week the province would look at a needs-based funding program, but those plans wouldn’t be ready to roll out until April of 2020.
Parents and supporters say they’re pleased they have been heard and the issue is going to be addressed, but say that timeline still leaves kids waiting another nine months for services and therapy they desperately need.
Supporters across the province are planning another rally on Tuesday (August 6) at various MPPs’ offices to voice their concerns.
