There has been a change of plans in Quinte West.
Trenton-Frankford Road, in the area of Glen Miller, won’t be reopening today (Friday) as planned but Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison calls that good news.
The road, closed for more than a month after it was destroyed by flood waters due to a dam failure at Glen Miller, was to open today for just a few days and then close again next week for some final paving work.
But Harrison says the work that was to be done next week is instead being started Saturday.
The road will remain closed until paving is completed tomorrow. The road is expected to reopen in the late afternoon. The City does not expect any more full road closures after tomorrow.
There is the potential for lane restrictions next week to allow for line painting and completion of the road shoulder.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience,” says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “With rain forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, it made the most sense to try and get the paving done now.”
Drain Brothers contracting says it will do the work on the weekend since rain is forecast early next week.
Harrison says this means the work will be done faster than originally planned.
The total cost of the repairs is estimated to around a half million dollars, and will be paid for by the dam operator Energex.
