Belleville has two big issues to raise at the annual meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa next month.
There’s the question of the proposed changes to highway 401 in the area, with the city looking for another interchange on the east side.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News the city also wants active transportation links crossing the highway.
Also, the city delegation hopes to speak with provincial and federal ministers about the widening of Bell Boulevard, west to the Costco development.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk hopes the environmental assessment can be “fast-tracked” or some items “waived.”
He says it was already done in the 1990s.
He says the idea is to get the $20 million project underway as soon as possible.
The city has applied for both provincial and federal funding for the project.
Councillors Chris Malette, Sean Kelly, Bill Sandison and Pat Culhane will be attending the conference with Mayor Panciuk.
The city has requested meetings with the Ministry of Transportation and the Minister of Environment.
Panciuk says they will also attend a number of sessions throughout the three-day conference.
