In 2006, Wayne Brown, Connie Reid & Colleen Reid started a tournament to get old friends together and remember Colleen’s brother, Shawn Coffin, who had passed away in 1998 at the age of 30.
In 2011, after the fifth year of the tournament, Wayne Brown was taken away too soon. Now the organizers remember both men with the Shawn Coffin/Wayne Brown Memorial Tournament.
Over 13 years of three pitch tournaments have raised a total of $53,495 supporting many local charities.
This year’s tournament was held June 7 and 8 and raised a total of $5675.
Organizers decided to donate the funds in conjunction with Butterfly Run Quinte for the remodelling of a private waiting room on the maternity floor of BGH.
It will be a small comfortable room for parents and families, that is separate from the common waiting area.
